Google SCIENCE Fair

I know some of you are really good at sciences, physics and chemistry. Therefore, thinking about how you can improve your skills, aim higher and go beyond what is expected from you at school, here's a challenge:
The 2016 Google Science Fair is open. It is a global online competition for youngsters between 13 and 18 and you can participate individually or in teams :=)

In partnership with National Geographic, LEGO Education, Scientific American, and Virgin Galactic, they want to hear how students will use science and engineering to make something better!
To help you get some inspiration and develop project ideas, the website also offers a Make Better Generator in which you are invited to finish the sentences
"I love..."
"I'm good at..."
and answer "What will I make better?"
With your answers, the website generates a collection of videos and websites that can really inspire you by sparking (project) ideas.
As you know and all developers know, science is everywhere and that's exactly the title of this year's inspirational video below:

To be sure it's for common students, just like you, but who believe in excellence and hard work, here is the testimony of last year's winner - a 17 year-old girl concerned about the spread of Ebola:

What are you waiting for?
Think about something you love, wish to make better and submit your project!
Ask for help, experiment!
Just go for it!
Make your dreams come true!

  1. I find that it is a grating chance for that to want to participate, but for this also is necessary to have availability and material to make it, also I find that nor all the people who would like they can participate therefore is necessary to be very good in research.
in conclusion I find that who to obtain to make the research and to present its work will be a great chance.

    1. Nice, Rui. I wish you would participate as you are one of our Science Stars :=)
It is indeed a great chance for those who want to participate, but as you also say, it requires availability, material and research work. A lot!!! But, what in life do we achieve without effort, hard work, dedication???
Just do it, Rui, grab this chance. The most important is taking part, getting involved and learning.
Not all can win but all will learn ;)

    1. It is indeed a great experience to take part in whatever opportunities that come up! It's not winning that is the most important. When preparing to participate, one always learns - a lot!

  4. The world needs people who contribute to the advancement of science. The examples I've seen in the videos are fantastic and show the great capacity for work and talent for young .These research can help build a better world. This challenge allows all those who like the area of science can share experiences, innovate , discover and contribute to improving the life and human knowledge. I would like to participate and contribute, but for this it is necessary to spend a lot of time, have working conditions and available resources, which isn't easy during the school year.

    1. The world needs dedicated youngsters, João, in every area. It's up to you, all of you , to start getting involved and, yes, it does require a lot of time, effort, resources, perseverance, everything! It's not easy, as you say, but if others around the world can do it, why can't any of you???

  5. Well, science is a thing that all the time gets on my mind and makes me want to make a difference, be better, not meant to be more than anyone, but be an example of evolution and that all cooperate in the world. But I limit myself too much, I don't have the ability to focus on one thing and me plan everything , I'm disorganized. This is my problem and that more don't want to know how to change...

    1. If you feel you don't have the ability to focus on one thing you say you like, to organise your time and stuff, to plan everything ahead, what are you waiting for??? Being humble and admitting our own limitations or difficulties is half way to change!!! It's just up to YOU!!!!!!!!

  6. I think with this project the world can evolve a lot, because teenagers, like us, have a very different view of the world.
The young people of these videos are an inspiration to all of us, especially those who like sciences, physics and chemistry.
This is a project I would like a lot to participate, but I think our school doesn't have all the necessary for this work, and during the time of classes is almost impossible to find time. But it is certainly a project that I would love to participate.

    1. Yes, in fact we have fantastic learning opportunities, I know you aren't the best and it is our typical wail of Portugal that limits us, unfortunately... But as teacher Alex said why not, why not start we the revolution Portugal to need... Unfortunately the reality is that we are lazy...

    2. Dear Verónica,
Behind these sources of inspiration, there are hard working students who have ambitions, who strive to succeed, to make a difference. Let me leave you with two quotes basically saying the same...
"Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration." Thomas A. Edison
"Genius is 1% talent and 99% percent hard work." Albert Eistein

  7. With projects like this one rigth here, the Google Science Fair, are fundamental.
With initiatives like this one we can and will develop areas in Science speaking in general.
We teenagers have a unique perspective of seeing the world and that is fundamental to improve us and Science.
With this project teenagers can finally help the society in many diferent ways!

  8. I love the idea of people as young as we can " change " the world because there are many adolescents with large capacities and nmagnificas ideas . I'd love to participate in a project like this and to help people around the world .

    1. Of course YOU can change the world!!! Remember Malala? There are other examples as the ones portrayed in the videos, Maria. Believe, work hard, stand for what you like and think it's correct.
Here's one of my favourite quotes by Nelson Mandela "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Just do it!

  9. I think it is so important for young people to ask these questions and find the answers themselves. They make everyone's life better and esier. It's really amazing to see teenagers make a difference. This project is awesome :)
