Congratulations, Class 9A of 2016!

Dear all,

First of all, let me congratulate you on your exam results! They were great and I was very happy to see that you have all made it to the 10th grade which marks the beginning of a new phase of your life.

Second, it's time to say goodbye - goodbye to all especially those who, for different reasons, are moving to a new school, and goodbye to this blog. Indeed, this is the end of a three-year cycle and blog dedication from us all; this is the end of 3 years of being your Form Teacher as well as Teacher of English as a Foreign Language and let me remind you that we've achieved a lot together! We started with a honours award on this blog, moved on to an etwinning project which was awarded as well, first with the National Quality Label, then with the European Label and finally we had the eTwinning flag hoisted in our school.
Right now it's time to celebrate your success(es) and to enjoy your holidays. Choose your own path and BE HAPPY!
I'll leave you with a wonderful book / poem by Dr. Seuss "Oh, The Places you'll go!" - Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.

You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.

And you may not find any
you'll want to go down.
In that case, of course,
you'll head straight out of town.

It's opener there
in the wide open air.

Out there things can happen
and frequently do
to people as brainy
and footsy as you.

And then things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

OH!
THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!

(…)

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

So...
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
     So...get on your way!

Our school

School Advert

Our School

Our school is environmentally friendly.

In our school we proudly display the eco-schools flag, which is assigned to all schools that are "green". This is due to the fact that our school takes steps to protect the environment, such as bins for recycling (plastic, cardboard and glass) ; collection of batteries and covers (bar); used oil collection (canteen) ; awareness raising (Ecological Footprint, ... ) ; we have a vegetable garden and more recently a greenhouse for vegetable planting. Our own class has even planted a cypress contributing to this cause. These actions are very important not only for the environment but also to encourage us to have ecological attitudes. This is why our school is a must for us.
We believe we can improve the world!

Artist Review: Tian Haisu

Tian Haisu

Hey guys, today I am going to talk about my favourite artist.
So, her name is Tian Haisu and she is from China. I’m doing this work about her, because I really appreciate her work and she i not very popular so I want her work to be recognized.

This artist paints amazing traditional Chinese-style black and white landscapes on an epic scale. Her work is stunning and sensational, because the way she paints is impressive: her brushes are her roller-skates therefore a strange method that arises curiosity for her work. Below are some examples of her work in a video where you can see how she does her art:

Odeith

Odeith was born in 1976 in Damaia (Portugal). He held a spray can for the first time in the mid-1980s, but it was in the 1990s, when graffiti began to spread throughout Portugal and started to leave his native Portuguese village, Carcavelos, that this artist had his first contact with graffiti and its movement. His first experiences were sketched on the walls of the streets and railways and so the passion he had always shown about the design had found a new purpose and began to evolve. Shortly after, the opportunity came to paint murals in a large scale in Damaia, Carcavelos, and in many districts of social housing as Cova da Moura, 6 de Maio and Santa Filomena.
From the beginning, the artist has shown particular interest in perspective and shadows in a dark style, which he later called "3D dark", where the compositions, landscapes or portraits, messages or tributes, stood out for its realism and technique. In 2005, Odeith was internationally recognized for its revolutionary inroads in anamorphic art field, which is distinguished by his compositions created in perspective and painted in different surfaces, such as corners or walls 90º from the ground, creating an optical illusion effect. In 2008, he decided to close his tattoo studio (opened in 1999) and moved to London.

His most recent achievement is a work of art in the Azores to honour Nicolau Breyner and which I consider excellent.

Artist Review: Joan Miró

Joan Miró was a painter, sculptor and printmaker.
He was born on April 20th, 1893, Barcelona (Spain) and died on December 25th 1983, in Palma de Mallorca (Spain). He attended Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in the Spanish capital and the Gali Academy. In 1919, after completing his studies, he was in Paris when he met Pablo Picasso and came into contact with the modernist trends such as Fauvism and Dadaism.
His first painting was made in 1917 and was named Prades, the Village. During his life, he created 44 works being the last in 1978, five years before his death.

In the creation of his works, he had the influence of Pablo Picasso, André Breton, Jean Arp, André Masson, Hieronymus Bosh, Tristan Tzara and Modest Urgell i Inglada.

Artist Review: Romero Britto

Hey, everyone! I'm going to tell you about my favourite artist, Romero Britto.

Romero was born on October 6th 1963. He is a Brazilian Neo-pop artist, painter, serigrapher and sculptor. In his work, he uses a lot of vibrant colours and bold patterns as a visual expression of hope and happiness. He combines elements of cubism, pop art and graffiti painting.

Here's some of his art:
Here's a well-known painting and my favourite
Britto with Dilma Rousseff, the President of Brazil, who he says has inspired him.

George Stubbs

I will talk about this painter because during his life George Stubbs became known as a painter of animals, and I like animals. Also, I have some illustrations of this painter that I really appreciate.
Born in 1724 in Liverpool, it was there that he first started practicing as a portraitist. In 1759 he settled in London and died in 1806 in this city.

The following illustration depicts the greatest wildlife picture painted by Stubbs. The painting was made to commemorate the donation of a cheetah to George III of the United Kingdom by the Madras English Governor, Sir George Pigot.

Stubbs was one of the greatest painters of horses of all times, as well as one of the best English artists. He studied anatomy which certainly allowed him to have a lot of knowledge about horse anatomy. His work is lyrical and transcends the naturalism.

David Choe

DAVID CHOE

Today I´m going to talk to you guys about David Choe.
David was born on April 21st 1976 (now 40 years old) and he is an American figure painter, muralist, graffiti artist and graphic novelist of Korean descent.
In his paintings he explores themes from desire, exaltation to degradation which are characterized by a raw, frenetic tone that he has coined "dirty style".
I really like his paintings! Some examples:

23rd April: 400th anniversary of SHAKESPEARE's death

Today's Google Doodle
Once we've been dealing with art, cinema e literature, here's another landmark: the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death.
In a minute, here you have Shakespeare's / the Bard's life:

Now, what have you read by Shakespeare? What plays / sonnets do you know? What movies have you watched based on his plays?

Artist Review: Johanna the Mad

Johanna
(this was the best I could do and it was
 REALLY hard to find...)
Hey, everyone! I'm going to tell you a little bit about my favourite artist, Johanna the Mad - this name is inspired in Joanna of Castile, also known as Joanna the Mad, who is one of Johanna's favourite heroines in history, and, since their names are so similar, she decided to pick it. She's twenty years old, she was born on July 5th, and she's from Mexico. She's studying animation. She posts her art on Tumblr, Instagram and Twitter. She mostly draws fan art of animes and other shows, and, yes, that's how I found her. She quickly became my favourite artist, I absolutely love her art style.

Here's some of her art:
Sanji (One Piece)
Marco & Jean (from Shingeki no Kyojin)
Roronoa Zoro (One Piece)
Elsa (Frozen)
So, if you want to check out her art, here are the links:

And her online shops:

Johanna is a HUGE inspiration for me and I use her drawings as a reference almost every time I draw. I dream of becoming as amazingly talented as she is one day. ^-^
Before you go,
here's Levi and baby Eren (Shingeki no Kyojin),
because this is really cute
That's all, have a nice day! :3

Happy Earth Day 2016!

Remember our "shining green"? One year has already gone by and look how the cypress has grown!

Happy Earth Day!!!

Movie Review: Howl's Moving Castle

Resultado de imagem para o castelo andante
This is my favourite animation movie. This film is about a girl, Sophie, who falls in love with Howl.
Howl is a very powerful and mysterious wizard who lives in a bewitched castle.

The Witch of Waste is chasing Howl and when she sees him with Sophie, she attacks her, transforming her into an old woman.

Sophie travels to the Wastes and encounters a living scarecrow whom she names "Turnip Head," who leads her to Howl's castle. Sophie's country is in war with a neighbour country. The King summons Howl (Pendragon and Jenkins) to fight in the war. Sophie learns that Howl has transformed into a bird, like creature in order to interfere in the war, but each transformation makes it more difficult for him to return to human. She fears that Howl is preparing to leave them.

The soundtrack CD was first released on 19 November 2004 by Tokuma.
I don't recommend this film to anyone who doesn't like cartoons or animes.

I just like the film because it was part of my childhood.
